9-22 Kawasaki- Yokohama

The Saturday that we went into Tokyo we were not actually able to get a hotel within Tokyo itself so we arranged for a hotel in Kawasaki for Saturday night. We took the shinkansen into Tokyo and then another train to get over to our hotel room. We got into Kawasaki somewhere between 2:30 and 3:00pm, and when we got into the city most of us split up to get to which ever hotel we had arranged to stay at. It was so strange navigating in such a large city, and even stranger to be staying in a one person hotel room alone. I would have preferred to stay with my roommate, Jenni, but they were really out of rooms everywhere due to it being a holiday weekend. We really just took what we could get. We talked with Reagan Sensei and arranged to meet him in
Yokohama for dinner around 6:00pm, which left us with 3-4 hours to explore Kawasaki.

It was a large city (pretty much all the cities surrounding Tokyo feel large) and it was really the first big city, next to Kyoto) that I had the opportunity to wander around. We did alot of window shopping and stopped in a few arcades (because Japanese arcades are pretty much the sweetest things ever). One arcade that we went into was dressed up like a haunted decrepit building. We went in very very warily, and almost turned right around when we saw that the entire inside was decked out like being on the set for the movie Hostel. To our surprise as soon as we took the elevator up we found ourselves in another arcade... but it was strange to say the least.

When we met the others in Yokohama we had fun wandering a mall, and really spent most of our time really taking in the feel of the 2nd largest city in Japan. We explored Chinatown at night, and ate dinner at a small Chinese restaurant that night. We also were lucky enough to stumble upon some street performers who were doing all sorts of amazing things while twirling fire. It was really an eventful and fun evening.
